On 31 August 2026, the Minister of Energy Iva Petrova adopted a decision to restructure Bulgarian Energy Holding EAD by separating Mini Maritsa Iztok EAD, TPP Maritsa East 2 EAD and MMI – Rehabilitation of Mining Sites EOOD into a new state-owned enterprise, Maritza Iztok Holding. The change is of a corporate and organisational nature, whilst state ownership of the companies remains entirely intact.
The restructuring was carried out in fulfilment of the commitments undertaken by the Republic of Bulgaria under the National Recovery and Resilience Plan and forms part of the comprehensive concept for the sustainable development of the Maritza Iztok energy complex.
Bulgarian Energy Holding EAD provided the institutional and expert support necessary for the successful completion of the process, in compliance with the applicable statutory requirements and while safeguarding the interests of the state.
This marks the beginning of a new stage in the development of Bulgarian Energy Holding EAD. A key priority will be to create a favourable environment for attracting Bulgarian and foreign investors, as well as to expand cooperation with established international and national companies, financial institutions and technology partners.
Efforts will also focus on making fuller use of the potential of the companies within the BEH Group by assessing opportunities for their development, modernisation and improved operational efficiency. Projects supporting technological advancement, diversification of activities, the development of new energy initiatives and the successful positioning of the companies within the rapidly changing European energy landscape will be actively encouraged.
